Aphasia Awareness Month Is Personal to Us
June marks National Aphasia Awareness Month, a cause that is deeply personal to our founder and CEO, Emily Gerhardstein, and the heartbeat behind why we built LS Adaptive.
After Emily's father was diagnosed with aphasia, everyday tasks like getting dressed became more challenging. One simple struggle, buttoning his pants, became the spark that changed everything.
"What began as a challenge helping one person get dressed became a mission to create clothing that promotes independence, dignity, and confidence for everyone."
Aphasia can affect a person's ability to communicate after a stroke or brain injury, but it does not affect their intelligence, personality, or desire to live independently. What Emily saw wasn't a loss of capability. It was an opportunity to create better solutions.

In the interview, Emily discusses her father's journey, the inspiration behind LS Adaptive, and our mission to bridge the gap between fashion and function.
What began as a challenge helping one person get dressed became a mission to create clothing that promotes independence, dignity, and confidence for people with disabilities, mobility challenges, and age-related conditions.
What Is Aphasia?
- Aphasia is a language disorder most often caused by stroke or brain injury.
- It affects a person's ability to speak, understand, read, or write.
- It does not affect intelligence, memory, or personality.
- Approximately 2 million people in the U.S. are living with aphasia today.
- June is National Aphasia Awareness Month, dedicated to education and advocacy.
Clothing Should Never Be a Barrier
For many people living with aphasia or other conditions that affect mobility, getting dressed can feel like a daily battle. Buttons, zippers, and traditional fastenings become real obstacles to independence.
How you dress should never limit how you live. That's why we built LS Adaptive. Our magnetic adaptive clothing is designed to restore confidence and make every morning a little easier, so our customers can focus on what matters most.
We're honored to use Aphasia Awareness Month to share Emily's story, raise awareness for this often-misunderstood condition, and keep advocating for products that put dignity first.
